What’s different about a house in the Old Hickory Village?

Its age, and who built it. DuPont put up a smokeless powder plant here in 1918 and laid out a whole community for the workforce, with more than three hundred dwellings by that November. Rayon production followed in 1925. Buildings from that period, 1918 through 1934, make up the historic nomination. A house that old may well still have hardwood, and on a wood floor, the textile that needs attention is the rug.

Area rug cleaning from accent size to large follows the same 4 steps as our carpet work, beginning with an inspection. If a rug is old or has a stain you’ve lived with for years, send a photo with your quote request. Hot water extraction can’t undo everything a century of family life may have done.

Do the lake and the river slow down drying?

They can. Water wraps around three sides of this area, and with crawl spaces under many houses the air stays damper than it does a few miles inland. Carpet dries in 4 to 8 hours depending on airflow, humidity and soil level, so a muggy July afternoon near the shore is more likely to sit at the long end. Open what you can, run the air conditioning, and keep fans going.

Outside the Village, much of ZIP 37138 was built from the 1970s through the 1990s: Hickory Hills, Shiloh Park, Brandywine Farms, Sherwood Forest and Langford Farms all sit in this part of the map. Those homes tend to have more wall-to-wall, and carpet cleaning is the likelier call there.

Old Hickory isn’t one of the towns we name as a service area. We take calls from here and confirm each visit by phone, so ring (629) 207-0276 before you set a day. If high water on the Cumberland or a burst pipe reaches your floors, water extraction has emergency service available.

Questions from Old Hickory

Can you get to an Old Hickory address, and how do I find out?

Phone Steam Rollerz at (629) 207-0276 and give your street, because Old Hickory isn’t a town we name, and we confirm each visit by phone. We keep the same hours, 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM, on each of the seven days. Have your rooms or furniture in mind, and send photos for a more accurate free quote.

Is the damp near Old Hickory Lake going to slow my carpet’s drying?

It can, since humidity is one of the three things that set drying time, and Old Hickory has water on three sides. Steam Rollerz gives 4 to 8 hours as the range for carpet. Keep the air conditioning on and doors open between rooms, and plan on the long end in summer.

Will an old rug from a house in the Old Hickory Village survive hot water extraction?

That depends on the rug, so Steam Rollerz inspects it first and can’t give a blanket answer for an Old Hickory heirloom. Send photos of the fringe, backing and any repairs. Area rugs go through the same 4 steps as carpet. Call (629) 207-0276 to confirm a visit and discuss the piece.

Do you offer fabric protector for furniture in Old Hickory homes?

Yes, Steam Rollerz offers fabric protector as an add-on at an additional fee, and you can ask about it for furniture in an Old Hickory home. We don’t publish the amount, so request it with your free quote at (629) 207-0276. We’ll also confirm then whether we can make the visit.
